construction
my previous post was the last from when i arrived. i started to write a post about my first full day off but never finished it. if i remember correctly it was about six weeks after i started work. six long weeks of 7am to midnight. i remember that i used the day to go into downtown abu dhabi and see what the city was like. i learned very fast that it was a city under construction.
abu dhabi is the capital of the uae. they are sitting on top of 9% of the world oil reserves…. almost 100 billion barrels… and that is just crude oil…. there is also natural gas. they have a lot of money…. and they are using it to build a destination metropolis. hotels, world class f1 and golf courses, a branch of the louve and guggenheim, cutting edge architecture and technology are all here or on the way. in the next five years every major (and minor for that matter) luxury hotel brand will be here with one or two properties. in ten years everyone will be saying “dubai, what’s dubai?”
i am not going to spend a lot of time rambling on about the future of abu dhabi and i will save my thoughts on why a chef would want to work here for another day. Just want share a few pictures from this city under construction.
